Music at St. Stephens

Music has the power to bring us together, lift our spirits and bring us close to God in a way that words cannot always do. We enjoy singing good hymns, and we have a lovely pipe organ, built by Pels and van Leuwen, a family-run organ builder in Holland. The organ was donated to the Chapel in 2003 by the Fung Foundation. Our organists are Henry Wheare, Robin Newman and Liz Coupe.
Members and friends of the congregation make up a choir for special occasions including our very special Lessons and Carols by Candlelight each year before Christmas.

We also have occasional concerts in the Chapel. In recent years we have enjoyed concerts performed by the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, and the Cecilian Singers, as well as our own musicians. Our most recent concert ‘The Words of Christ in the Music of Bach’ featured a recital of the complete Bach Suites for unaccompanied Cello, presented by the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, on January 6th and 7th 2012.

Our next concert will be a recital of choral music on Wednesday April 4th by the visiting Altensteiger Vokalensemble, a German Choir from the Black Forest region. Admission is free, donations welcome.

We are always glad to welcome people who like to sing and make music.
